| Emeritus Member Jackie
Morton |

At
the August 7th business meeting Altrusa International of Roseburg
honored long-time member, Jackie Morton, with emeritus membership.
Emeritus membership is granted to active Altrusans who have been
members for at least ten years and who are deserving of recognition
because of their history of service to Altrusa and devotion to its
principles. Eligible Altrusans and devotion to its principles.
Eligible Altrusans are those who are exemplary in their service to
Altrusa but due to age or disability cannot continue as active club
participants. Jackie joined Altrusa in 1982. Her initial
classification was community colleges, academic functions. This
changed to financial planning when she retired from her job as a
business instructor and department chairman at Umpqua Community
College. Jackie has chaired or co-chaired the Community Service,
Membership and Vocational Services committees. She has been both
president and treasurer of our local club foundation. Jackie has
sponsored thirteen member five of whom are still active: Diana
Circle, Elsa Danskine, Karen Fager, Lynn Kuhn and Susan Stanbury.
During the years 1991-1994 Jackie served as vice-president,
president-elect and president. In 1991-1992 she was the driving
force in a fund-raising project for the Douglas County library that
was raising money for the new Roseburg headquarters. She was the
chairman of the committee and brought in motivational speaker Alyce
Cornyn-Selby. Jackie also canvassed the community for donations so
that people in transition in our community could attend the event
with free tickets. Another significant event occurred during
Jackie's presidency: Altrusa International developed its Quality
Club (now the Distinguished Club) Award. Jackie worked with her
board to complete and submit the necessary club activity report. We
were very pleased that Altrusa International of Roseburg was named a
Quality Club for 1993-1994, the only club in District Twelve so
honored that year. Jackie is just an all-round good person and
member. She's marched in parades, modeled at fashions shows,
organized programs, sold tons of gift wrap, and presented a positive
image for Altrusa International of Roseburg. Congratulations Jackie
for your recognition and thanks for your years of dedicated service
to our club and community.
