Community Service Activities

"Project School Bell" - Clothing, School Supplies and Prescriptions for Student Retention Program - 2009-2010 Chair: Tamara Rosser & Stacy Minner. This program works to improve the self esteem of elementary through high school students. Students are identified by School District staff based on their need for additional assistance and at the beginning of the school year school supplies and other necessities are provided. Through improving the self image of these children, we hope to encourage these students to stay in school. Project School Bell also pays for prescriptions that are needed by students who are unable to pay for needed medications.

Something to Smile About" - Dental Program - 2009-2010 Chair: Sandy Post. Something to Smile About" is a very successful program that focuses on dental hygiene as preventative care, as well as urgent dental treatment needs of school age children. The program provides dental kits, educational information, and sponsors Dental Van visits to Local Schools.
Woman's Vocational Scholarships. The Scholarship Program assists women interested in pursuing a career or reentering the workplace. Three $500 to $1,000 scholarships are available. Previous scholarship recipients are eligible to receive a second year of scholarship monies.
Literacy Project - 2009-2010 Chair: Megan Miller-Morgan. Altrusa International of Yaquina Bay supports the Central Coast Literacy Program which purchases books and learning materials for tutors and students and gives scholarships to the GED Program at the Oregon Community College.
Helping Hands Award - 2009-2010 Chair:  Altrusa International of Yaquina Bay annually recognizes a local business that has given outstanding support to the club and its projects during the year.

Annual Donations
► Our group makes yearly donations to worthy organizations such as Lincoln County Children's' Advocacy Center, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), My Sister's Place and Samaritan House to name a few. Donations to our community have averaged over $10,000 per year.

Fundraising Activities
► Annual Garage Sale - 2009-2010 Chair: Josie Thompson. This event is held each Fall on a Saturday. It raises money and makes available affordable goods and clothing for the community.
► Trivia Bee - 2009-2010 Chair: Patti Eisler. Altrusa hosts a trivia bee contest with teams sponsored by many area businesses. Proceeds from this popular event fund scholarships and literacy projects for the community.
► Newport Seafood & Wine Festival - 2009-2010 Chair: Gabrielle McEntee-Wilson. Altrusa pours wines from an Oregon winery during this annual Newport Festival in late February.
