Our Club in Action
 
Our Club in Action - Each year Altrusa clubs identify unmet needs in their communities. Working on their own or in conjunction with other groups. they plan and carryout specific programs that answer those needs. Annually, Altrusa of Kitsap selects several projects to finance and implement, which improve our community.

Community Service Projects

  • Annual Community Service Scholarship - funded since 1989 to non-traditional adult students returning to trade or technical schools and or college.
  • Greenhouse Project at Martha & Mary Health Center - Provided funding to purchase an assortment of plants, shrubs and grasses to complete the Greenhouse project.
  • Dental kits for Peninsula Community Health Services Dental Program - Purchased Educational Dental Kits for K-8 public school students.
  • Stand Up for Kids - provided funds for the local Stand Up for Kids to benefit their programs that keep teens in school.
  • Kitsap Mental Health Services - provided educational computer software and held a food drive to benefit transitional housing clients.
  • Evergreen & Lions Field Parks - provided park benches for the enjoyment of the community.

History of Service

  • Literacy Council of Kitsap - Established in 1979 with seed money from Altrusa. Participate with a team of spellers in the Annual Corporate Spelling Bee.
  • Sexual Assault comfort Kits (SACKs) Project - Kit contained clothing and personal toiletry items for adults and children who were victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. These kits were provided to local area hospitals. Annually we re-supply the kits.
  • Meals on Wheels Grant - $1,000 - support Meals on Wheels delivered to homebound persons recovering from hospitalization or illness.
  • ALIVE Shelter for Battered Women - Initial financial support and Holiday gifts for residents.
  • Handicap Barrier Challenge - Resulted in handicap access to Olympic College and downtown Bremerton.
  • Established CASA program - Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children.
