Service Projects
Current Projects:

* Currently we are making and filling Altrusa Care Bags for women and children who are victims of violence and/or rape. These bags contain items such as new underwear, soap, shampoo, rinse, toothbrush, toothpaste, basically everything they will need for approximately 2 days. We are also including reading material, bus passes, personal care products and a booklet produced by the City of Nanaimo called Surviving in Nanaimo. This project was suggested by the nursing staff at NRGH, and has been applauded by the Rape Clinic at Haven House, Samaratin House, ADAPT and the Women's Center, all of which have requested bags. The total requested to date for one year is approximately 2000 bags.

* We are providing software and puppets to the Vancouver Island Regional Library's pre-school program in conjunction with the Gates Foundation's gift of new computers.

On-going projects

* Bursaries for high school and college age young women going on to higher education.

* Project Re-entry providing funds up to $1,000 each to older women for re-training to help them get back into the work force.

* Library book delivery service to shut-ins-ongoing for over 30 years.
